Are there more technological innovations in individual sports or in team sports? How is sport technology policy different for individual and team sports?

Generally, technological innovation is greatest in the areas where technology can have the greatest impact. Because new technology allows individuals to express their athletic excellence and because in individual sports the individuals athletic skill has the greatest impact on the outcome, technological innovation is greatest in individual sports. In team sports, the skill of individual athletes and the team dynamic impact the results. Changes in the football will have less of an impact on the results than a new snowboard design. New technologies that benefit some players may be less of an advantage to others and thus have minimal impact on the game. For this reason we see fewer innovations and more regulations in shared equipment (tennis ball for example) and team sports than individual sports.
