About Programs

Get Charged is developing a number of programs that meet its objective of health, education, and community unity through active play. In addition to these specific programs, Get Charged is working with partners to develop custom programs that meet specific business objectives while enhancing Get Charged core mission.

The first program Get Charged has launched is the Quest for Excellence program which is focused on examining the impact of technology on sport. The program consists of a newsletter, a traveling exhibit, and an online museum.

Newsletter: Get Charged is producing a free monthly newsletter to be distributed through schools, camps, museums and business. This newsletter focuses on a particular topic in sport technology and examines not only the science behind a technology but also the social science, including the history of the technology, the social and financial impact, the effect on the tradition of the sport, sport as a leisure activity and a spectator sport. The information is targeted to middle-school children but is intended to provide interesting fodder for group conversations and raise issue adults may not have considered regarding sport technology. The newsletter also has games and calls to action, encouraging people to get active and examine the issues raised in their favorite sport or physical activity.

Website: The website is a more complex and engaging version of the newsletter. Issues raised will be more fully explored in the interactive medium of the Internet. Onsite the science behind the technology can be displayed, chat rooms encourage discussion on key topics, and activities that demonstrate the impact of the technology will be developed to encourage people to not just think about sports technology but also engage in active play.

Traveling exhibit: Get Charged is working to produce a traveling exhibit that demonstrates may of the themes raised in the newsletter and online. The exhibit will enable people to run, jump, and climb to more effectively experience and understand how technology impacts sports. The physical interaction will not only enhance the educational objectives of the Get Charged: Quest for Excellence program but will physically get people active and engaged.
